"The journey is the reward." ~ Taoist saying
From the Editor's Desk Basically, I think the world has gone completely insane. Either that, or I have been listening to too much news! I listen to America's National Public Radio, and BBC's News of the World every day, and watch local news on the television at night. I read various more obscure stories throughout the day. Here are a couple of examples of the kinds of crazy stuff that is catching my attention. Alisha just came in and asked me if I had heard about the Coyotes in California that tried to drag off two babies? Read about that here. Or about the Sinkhole that's opened up northeast of Houston. Surprise, surprise! Officials think the sinkhole might be related to saltwater waste pumped into an underground salt dome. The waste is generated by the oil industry, which is also partly responsible directly for weakening the salt dome. It all says to me that we need to wake up fast now! The consequences of our ancestors' greedy and selfish actions are fast coming to slap us in the face. Why would coyotes be attacking babies if their habitat had not been destroyed? And why would sink holes be opening up if we had not drained the life blood out of that part of the earth? I still think Americans are insulated and naive. We're a relatively young society. I know from my stints as a resident of the rest of the world that we lead an embarrassingly soft lifestyle here. We bleat like sheep about the price of petrol when we've been paying a fraction of what everyone else pays. I wish we could just take a collective deep breath and get busy fixing things! In spite of it all, however, I remain optimistic, because I walk outside and the sun still shines. My garden still grows, birds still nest in the trees. 100,000 people just died in Myanmar, but the sun still shines...
