Christmas is nearly here, and the kids are out of school. We have heaps of presents
under our glowing Christmas tree, and we're all feeling a bit giddy! Today my
cooking begins in earnest, and the over-eating is sure to follow soon after!
I
hope you are all feeling a little bit of the magic that this season brings, whether
you celebrate this holiday or not. After all, the magic is love, and we all need
that every day.
This week's feature,
a press release describing a recent honor bestowed on Jean-Michel Cousteau, is
here because I feel this work is so very important. As a little girl, the documentaries
of Jacques Cousteau inspired me to pursue a life on the oceans. Follow the links
at the end of the article to learn more about different ways you can help preserve
our oceans.
Have you read the article I have in this
month's issue of Healthy
Wealthy -n Wise? That's http://www.healthywealthynwise.com
for those receiving the plain text version of this newsletter.) The title is Dare
to Be Different - But Know Yourself.
This
brings me to a point I must clarify. I keep getting e-mails from people who think
that I have jobs to offer. I am not offering jobs here, just the tools to help
you find them. When you post a resume with me, that gives you a place to post
your information and availability online free of charge for a few months. Use
the link to your resume to simplify the application process as you search out
jobs.
I cannot shout loud enough that I make
no guarantees about finding you work. You are still responsible for publicizing
your availability.

LOS ANGELES, CA.: Jean-Michel Cousteau, founder of
Ocean Futures Society and a world-renowned advocate for ocean protection, has
received the first ever "Ocean Hero" Award from Oceana for "defending
the world ocean" and "inspiring people of around the globe."
"The
extraordinary spirit of the Cousteau family is alive and well in the work of Jean-Michel,"
said Oceana CEO Andrew Sharpless. "Jean-Michel has inherited the mantle of
ocean explorer and caretaker of the seas from his father, and he has swum with
it. His work has inspired a love of the seas in people all over the world, and
I can't think of a
more deserving recipient of our first ever Ocean Hero
Award."
The Oceana "Ocean Hero" Award
will be presented annually to an individual who has displayed a profound dedication
and effort in defending our oceans. It recognizes those who have made steadfast
commitments, in some cases over the course of a lifetime, to
advocating for
and protecting the world's oceans. Cousteau received the award at a prestigious
ceremony in Los Angeles.
Oceana is a non-profit, international
advocacy organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the world's ocean.
Oceana's policy, science, law and public education campaigns work to prevent the
collapse of marine life caused by destructive industrial fishing and pollution.
The organization has members in more than 150 countries and
territories.
It recently merged with The American Oceans Campaign, founded by actor and ocean
proponent Ted Danson.
"I am deeply grateful to
Oceana for honoring me with their first 'Ocean Hero' Award," Cousteau said.
"I receive it as a reflection of all the efforts we have made over four decades
to educate the public globally to our mission--'Protect the ocean, and
you
protect yourself.'"
Cousteau said he will share
the award with "all the real, everyday heroes who work tirelessly to save
the ocean and all its inhabitants for generations to come."
"There
are thousands of people, particularly young people, who have awakened to the cause
of protecting this water planet," he said. "They are making the ocean's
future a part of their lives by working to safeguard one of the world's greatest
assets. They are all our 'ocean heroes' of tomorrow."
Cousteau,
an impassioned spokesman and diplomat for the environment, has produced over 70
films, and been awarded the Emmy, the Peabody Award, the 7 d'Or--the French equivalent
of the Emmy, and the Cable Ace Award. In 1998, he received the "Environmental
Hero" Award from the Vice President of the United States, and became the
first person to represent the environment in the Opening Ceremony of the 2002
Olympic Games. Cousteau was inducted in the International Scuba Diving Hall
of Fame in the Cayman Islands last year.
Ocean
Futures Society (OFS) was founded by Jean-Michel Cousteau, and is dedicated
to the mission of exploring our global ocean, inspiring and educating people to
act responsibly for its protection, documenting the critical connection between
humanity and nature, and celebrating the ocean's vital importance to the survival
of life on our planet. OFS is based in Santa Barbara, California, and has offices
in Washington, D.C. and Paris, France. For more information about Jean-Michel
Cousteau and OFS, visit our website at http://www.oceanfutures.org.
Jean-Michel
Cousteau also serves as the spokesperson for the British Virgin Islands, a collection
of forty-plus islands known for their exceptional beauty and unique marine environment.
Mr. Cousteau is co-director of the Environmental Program at the British Virgin
Islands Marine Center at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College located on the
island of Tortola.
